HMAS QUIBERON 1940 - 1964

Originally laid down as destroyer HMS Quiberon, on 4th October 1940 and launched 31st January 1942.

The vessel was commissioned as HMAS Quiberon on 6th July 1942, armed with four 4.7" guns, eight 21" torpedo tubes and light Anti-aircraft armament.

HMAS Quiberon saw much action in WW II and was successful in a number of sea battles.

There were some hardships to bear though (someone had to do it); Heron Is, Brampton Is, Lindeman Is, Long Is, South Molle Is, Lizard Is, Hong Kong, Singapore . . . the list goes on.

There were also dramatic moments - rescues mid ocean, Viet-nam - Nha Trang and Saigon .
